Introduction

The slapping is a technique that combines several specific movements to obtain very interesting percussive effects.

There are two basic movements, thumb and pop

Some great bass masters: Alain Caron, Victor Wooten, Mark King, or Marcus Miller.

Style Mark King

A slap lick of Mark King, in the Level42 group. The song is "Hot water".

Everything is played on the thumb and it goes quickly!!

Style Alain Caron

A lick in the style of the great Alain Caron.

Composed mostly of sixteenth notes, playing a tempo of 120, this plan uses two techniques:

  • double thumb: up and down movement
  • double pop: index and middle finger popping

  • This plan was written for 5 string, but for 4 strings owners, you just have to transpose, instead of being in C, it will be in F

As usual, working very slowly with the metronome, and watch the video:

    Funk slap

This is a nice little funk lick in E.

You'll notice the use of hammers on the notes D and E, A strings, and the slide on the Bb note, D strings.

    "Art Metal" - Jonas Hellborg

This slap intro, from the song "Art Metal" from the eponymous album.

    Funk slap II
